Coping with Challenges

Encountering challenges is normal in people. Everyone encounters challenges in life. Even from the young ones like students to the older ones like those who're already working encounter problems. We encounter almost countless problems before we reach our dreams and way to success. We shouldn't let our problems become a hindrance to our dreams and make us fail. I believe in the saying that "God gave us the problem for he knows we can carry it" and that "For every problem, there is a solution. It is important to know how to cope and face challenges since everyone encounters it.

There are several ways of coping to our problems. The very first and the most important way is to always remember our Lord. Don't forget Him because he is the only person who can always help us how heavy our problems are. Second, ask for help or assistance to people who are older than us, especially our parents, for they may have experienced the problems we're encountering. Third, always be optimistic and never lose hope and hold even to a very small string of hope. Fourth, always have back-up plans. Have more than 1 solution for every problem. Have plan A, B, C, D, E and if possible until Z. These back-up plans help you to have another solution in case your first solution failed. If none worked, consider it the toughest problem in the world. Lastly, we should learn how to sacrifice. Give up all our wants and those who are not much important to accomplish the more important and to solve the problem. For example, the problem is you cannot finish your homework early and you're always late at school, and you found out that the cause was opening Facebook that slows you down on your homework. Therefore, you need to stop opening Facebook so you can finish your homework faster and come to school earlier.

My Legacy

I want to be remembered by others as a good basketball and chess player. These 2 are my most favorite sport. Since before, when I was still young, I already dreamed of being a good and famous basketball and chess player. I want to enhance myself physically through basketball. I want to be faster, more disciplined, more cooperative, more tactical, always be optimistic, and be a better player. I also want to improve my mental abilities and skills through playing chess. I liked chess because it makes me think critically by having strategies. I want to be remembered for basketball because I want to be like Sonny Jaworski who is remembered by Filipinos for his "Never Say Die" attitude and Magnus Carlsen in his chess tactics and strategies. Besides, these two are also my hobbies so it’s not too hard for me to master and be better.

A True Hero

For me, Muelmar Magallanes is really a true and a great hero. He is willing to sacrifice himself for other people. He was a Filipino from Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City. He was just 18 years old and works as a construction worker. The hero inside him has come out and his heroic deed happened on the time when the typhoon Ondoy happened. During the typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines, when he heard that the flood destroyed the bridge near where he lives, he evacuated his family in a high place then returned, trying to rescue 30 other neighbors. He is a good swimmer and so, he repeatedly returned to their street to help the other people who cannot escape from their homes. 2 of the people he had saved is a 6-month old baby which is just above a box of Styrofoam and its mother, Menchi Peñalosa. According to the stories, in the greatest pouring of the rain, Magallanes whole-heartedly offered himself to save his family and neighbors but he unfortunately failed to save himself. He was swept away by the strong water current and his body was found with twenty-eight more people who also died because of the typhoon. After a few days, the Senate honored Magallanes because of his heroic deed. He was also honored as one of the Top 10 Heroes of the year in the Time Magazine.
