A True Hero

For me, Muelmar Magallanes is really a true and a great hero. He is willing to sacrifice himself for other people. He was a Filipino from Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City. He was just 18 years old and works as a construction worker. The hero inside him has come out and his heroic deed happened on the time when the typhoon Ondoy happened. During the typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines, when he heard that the flood destroyed the bridge near where he lives, he evacuated his family in a high place then returned, trying to rescue 30 other neighbors. He is a good swimmer and so, he repeatedly returned to their street to help the other people who cannot escape from their homes. 2 of the people he had saved is a 6-month old baby which is just above a box of Styrofoam and its mother, Menchi Peñalosa. According to the stories, in the greatest pouring of the rain, Magallanes whole-heartedly offered himself to save his family and neighbors but he unfortunately failed to save himself. He was swept away by the strong water current and his body was found with twenty-eight more people who also died because of the typhoon. After a few days, the Senate honored Magallanes because of his heroic deed. He was also honored as one of the Top 10 Heroes of the year in the Time Magazine.
